On mornings when it’s below zero, I’ll tear up a few slices of bread and toss it out for the crows. Most will grab a beak full and fly off, but this one crow likes to drop his bread in the heated bird bath and let it soak for a bit. Smart birds, crows are.
My debut novel, Surviving Bear Island, a Junior Library Guild Selection, came out in March 2015 from Move Books. When I'm not writing I spend lots of time exploring the roadless areas of Alaska on foot and by kayak. I also teach English. I am represented by Amy Tipton of Signature Literary Agency.
